Detailed Description (What):

This project is to detail the inside of the existing roundhouse. During shows, it would be cool to open up the inside of the roundhouse to show typical activities that go on inside a railroad roundhouse. The plan would be to revise the existing lighting such that the lighting could show up cameo detailing such as loco maintenance, re- tiring wheels, cleaning out the smoke boxes, regreasing axle boxes etc. It is envisaged that the top of the roundhouse would be removable or replaced by perspex to allow inside viewing. It is also envisaged that several push buttons would be fitted on the layout facia so that guests could push to light up different cameo scenes or all of them.

Reason(s) (Why):

To better highlight the roundhouse area and to provide guests with a historical perspective on the activities within a roundhouse.

Notes:

To best show up the cameo scenes, it may be necessary to remove part of the roundhouse side wall – classic cutaway. This would need to be an optional thing so that the roundhouse could look complete or in cutaway mode. Part of the roof currently is removable.
Requirements would be : 4 figures in suitable poses for the 3 scenes.
Re-tiring :A spare wheel, 5 small LEDS for the wheel heating, 5 small resistors, small amt of wiring, junk pieces of plastic to assemble firing structure.
Smokebox : A dummy steam loco with opened smokebox, LED light for illumination , spare shovels
Greasing : Another dummy steam loco, grease gun for bended figure and LED illumination.
Costs : $20 for two junk steam locos, $10 for figures, $20 for LEDs and resistors, $5 for wiring, $15 for toggle switches for front panel, $5 for labels, $10 for perspex for cutaway. Other items could be sourced from peoples scrap boxes. Max Total $85. If people supply scrap locos and we reuse some LEDs then cost reduces to $55.
