Detailed Description (What):

This project is to revise the DC control on the short line. A better DC control system from Keiths inherited Truckee layout will be installed using a new power supply and phone style plug ins around the short line and better hand held control unit using momentum.

Reason(s) (Why):

The old DC control unit is fixed in one position which means people operating the short line in DC mode have to move to and from the control unit to the back of the layout in order to switch cars and trucks. The new control unit can be plugged in at 4 different positions around the short line thus allowing the operator to access all parts of the short line while still maintaining control. This allowing for better testing of locos, more satisfying switching of cars.

Notes:

The cost of this project to the club is small. An existing power supply will be used together with an existing remote plug in control unit. Phone style connection boxes are also supplied, as is all the necessary cable. In addition, a small drawer assembly will be used to house the power supply and current power controller. A switch will be used to enable either the new DC power supply or the old one. Some expense may be incurred for drawer runners – $50 max.
